Why We Love It: Escape the heat and enter the world of aquatics and exotic wildlife. The Dallas World Aquarium features many different types of animals. Enjoy penguins, otters, alligators, free-flying monkeys and even sloths. Experience an underwater adventure as you veer through the glass shark tunnel, almost as if they’re swimming above you. Visit during feeding hours for a special insider look to what each animal receives to stay strong and healthy. There’s nothing like a weekend spent learning about life’s magnificent creatures while oo-ing and aww-ing around each corner.
Why We Love It: It’s time for an adventure! Take the little ones (ages 5 and under) to explore and discover on their own at one of the best kids activities in DFW. They’ll be free to shop at the farmer’s market, get active on a “nature hike” or spark a creative side during the Manipulative Exploration lab. Have older kids? The Engineering and Innovation Hall is perfect for those who are apt to envision and build whatever they imagine. With 12 different exhibits to choose from, ranging from a Sports Hall to Gems and Minerals, it would be hard not to actively participate at the Perot Museum.
Why We Love It: “Going Bonkers” – it’s exactly how it sounds! Crawl, climb, jump, hop, skip, slide and all of the above here at this ginormous jungle gym. A pooped kiddo at the end of the day, guaranteed. (Ah, naptime.) It sounds like a marathon, but fear not, there’s a lounge specifically for parents or nannies to relax while they overlook the entire Play Zone. In addition, let yours and your kiddos’ inner gamer side come out and test the competition in the arcade area. You won’t get bored with crane games, racing, bowling, and rides. Pick a prize at the end for a cherry on top of a perfect family-outing!
Why We Love It: Step foot back in time and into this movie-esque nature trail. The 46-foot T-Rex and life-size animatronic dinosaurs will have you feeling like you’re on the set of Jurassic Park. The roars of the dinos and the sounds of the wildlife come together to create a life-like experience that your kids will want to jump out of the stroller for. The dinosaur play area is a hit after seeing them up close and personal. This specific exhibit inside the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary is only here for a limited time (February 18, 2019) so make sure to take advantage of the deals!
Why We Love It: You haven’t done arts and crafts until you’ve had the Crayola Experience! Not only will the kids enjoy this, but so will the adults, because who doesn’t love a classic Crayon? Get colorful at the “ultimate coloring station” with thousands of different Crayons to choose from. Always wish your little one’s masterpieces could come to life? A digital design can do just that at the augmented reality station. The Crayon playground and the Stomp and Play area are perfect places to send the more energetic kids. Afterwards, re-energize at the Café Crayola and watch a live how-to demonstration of how Crayons get their color, are melted and made right in front of your eyes. Modeling clay, paint, chalk, digitized designing – let the inner artist out!
Why We Love It: Texas heat and waterparks just go together. But, what’s even better than that? An INDOOR waterpark! Epic Waters is an oasis that family members of all ages can enjoy. There’s body slides, drops, races and tubes, twists and plunges for the adventurous ones. The Rascal’s Round Up area is full of water buckets, sprinklers, geysers and slides for the little ones to enjoy. Then, when they get tired, the lazy river and pool are perfect alternatives for those who just want to relax in the tranquil waters.
Why We Love It: Kick on the cowboy boots (yours and the littles) to feel the spirit of the West. The cattle drive is the thing to see, so plan in advance to make sure you don’t miss the best part of it all. Tons of cowboys and cowgirls are walking around and some even riding their horses – enough for children to idolize all aspects of the Western life. Rodeo displays, carriage rides, pretend gun fights… If you’re not from Texas, you’ll feel like you are. Be sure to let the little ones feed and pet the animals at the petting zoo or take a ride on the miniature train before heading out to the numerous restaurants that are offered. Finally, the day isn’t complete without some good ol’ fashioned BBQ!
Why We Love It: Tailor your day to exactly how you want it at the Mountasia Family Fun Center. Stay inside and win some prizes at the arcade or take the competition to the next level at the laser tag grounds. On a hot, Texas day you can count on the Summit Skate arena to pack your day with some indoor fun on skates. Or, race to see who can climb the rock wall faster. The outdoor adventures feel like a whole other amusement park, with golfing, go-carts and boats.
Why We Love It: This Texas landmark provides authentic and historical aspects of pioneer life from the 19th century with an impressive display of log cabins throughout the village. Take history right out of a textbook and give your kids and fun, education and hands-on experience. As you walk through the town and peek in each log-home furnished with authentic artifacts, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time. A water-powered gristmill, herb garden, blacksmith shop, a school house and other settings are offered in this educational attraction. The younger ones can enjoy an interactive display at Pepper’s Place, where they can discover, touch and try anything inside and outside of the cabin!
Why We Love It: “One to check off the bucket list!” is a way to describe this zoo. An educational extravaganza – don’t miss the live shows from the Animal Outreach staff, providing information about various Texas animals in the outdoor learning theater. An express train, carousel, petting corral, and rock climbing wall are just a few of the attractions to visit in between visiting all of the 540 different species of animals. Birds, mammals, fish and reptiles span the area for viewing pleasure with an optional tram ride for an easier on the feet experience. Don’t miss the new Savannah exhibit where you can feed an adorable giraffe!
